Note: At this time, artists exhibiting at Delavan Art Gallery must
live or work in Onondaga, its contiguous counties (Cayuga, Cortland,
Madison, Oswego) and Oneida, Seneca, Tompkins and Wayne Counties.
If you wish to be considered for a show, please follow the steps
below:
1) Request an Artist Packet
Call or send a letter to the gallery manager, Caroline Szozda, requesting
information. The address is:
Caroline Szozda, Gallery Manager
Delavan Art Gallery
501 W. Fayette St.
Syracuse, NY 13204
Phone (315) 425-7500 FAX (315) 474-3609
e-mail cszozda@delavancenter.com
We will send you our Artist Packet for your review and response. The Artist
Packet includes detailed information about Delavan Art Gallery and its methodology
for exhibiting art. Please fill out the Artist Information Page and return
it in the mail to the address above. If you are enclosing materials that you
wish to be returned, please enclose an envelope of sufficient size and with
enough postage for the return of your materials.
2)
The Gallery Manager will review your information and contact you
to as soon as possible to schedule a meeting to see your work in person
at the gallery (if possible). Appointments are generally made during
one week each month.
3)
After reviewing your work, the Gallery Director, Manager, and
Coordinator will review your information collaboratively and respond
with a probable YES or a NO concerning showing the work and the possible
timing of the show.
4)
If NO, your slides and photos will be returned and you may be
invited to try again in a year or two.
5)
If YES, we will
post your information to our planning board to be scheduled for an
upcoming show. From the time of reviewing your
work, it usually takes one to two years before your show actually
takes place. You may think you have dropped into a black hole, but
fear not. We will contact you as soon as we have a possible show
date for you to consider. This usually happens five to nine months ahead
of the possible date. During this “in between” time,
we recommend staying in touch to keep us up to date on how you and
your
art are progressing.
6)
When we have a possible date for a show, we will call you with the proposal. If
this date doesn’t work, you will be put back
on the planning board to be considered for an alternate date. If you
agree, we consider that a verbal commitment. A contract will be drawn
up and mailed to you for your review and signature. This contract
attempts to clearly define the respective rights and obligations of
the artist and gallery and stipulates the amount and type of work,
dates of exhibiting and reception, promotional needs and costs. No
contract is written in stone and items that need explanation or don’t
work should be discussed at the outset. The contract, other paperwork
and other details surrounding the show will be discussed with you
at this time.
7)
The flow of information between the artist and gallery should always continue so that there
are no unnecessary surprises. If
there are ever any questions or concerns about us or our process, please
don’t hesitate to contact us.
